Mixed mode ventilation system is another focus we are looking at. This mode offer the potential of energy saving by relieving some of the spaces off air conditioning, such as lobby and corridor. However, care must be taken with regards to the mixing of external humidity with the air in air conditioned spaces, which might lead to higher energy consumption by the AC system. Another interesting study is to understand how people perceived comfort in mixed mode buildings. Our team led by Dr Mohamad Fakri Zaky is conducting a survey on the thermal comfort and comfort perception of people staying in mixed mode hotels. Recently the team went to Penang from 11-14th April 2015 to conduct a thermal comfort survey of the visitors and workers.
